Picnic With Annie IV

I'm honestly not entirely sure what to think of this one. I kind of screwed up and didn't take this full frame, so this crop is what I did with my camera, not on the computer. And yet, despite the perhaps unconventional crop for a portrait, I still like it. It seems, to me at least, to have a slight air of mystery, of longing, and perhaps of sadness. I don't know honestly though, I've only been doing this whole photography thing for about 3 months.

I think it's quite original. It surelly doesn't seem controlled at all, but there's something to it. I think you might have tried to crop it on your computer. Difficult to explain with words but will try... cutting the top above the head and the bottom under the shoulder... oh wasn't this difficult finally ^^.
I also advice you to try doing such photo on purpose, that will help you have the right feeling with this style of photo.

I think its cool Paul. Mysterious, and yes it does have a kind of sadness to the image. If this was an isolated image and not part of a series it would give a very different impression of Annie. But as part of an arching series it provides another insight into annie herself/the day in question/your relationship/conversation etc. Fine job.

i like it .. i'd suggest cropping some of the right side of the frame, to prevent the eye from wandering out there too far .. still, as duncan says, it's an interesting addition to the series ..

@jc: I would have cropped it but I'm not on my computer at the moment. I've got a temporary file of a dozen pictures on my grandfather's computer that I've been posting and he has utterly no imaging software so crops and digital editting is not an option, I'm just pulling straight off of my film.

I'd consider cropping the negative space around her. I think this would give the image more impact.

@Daniel: I agree, but as I mentioned earlier, I'm not on a computer with any image editting software, pictures are being taken straight from the negatives with no way to edit them right now.

I've not been here in a while and I am catching up on things a bit. Annie is beautiful. I think this crop works because it feels like you are leaving something behind. Poetic actually.
