Soldiers and a Shadow Girl

The reason why yesterday was so short and the picture so cliched, is because I spent the day with my best friend. It was a whirlwind day, from about 9am-6pm she and I were together, but it was also one of the best days I've had in a long, long while.

We went to see the local civic ballet company's production of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker. My younger sister dances in it every year, she's a very talented dancer and trains with various companies across the country when she isn't in school. I love classical ballet. Always have and always will, and I was able to take pictures throughout the performance this year.

And no, I didn't have a flash on, and yes I turned my screen off. I respect the dancers and the other audience members, I know how hard it is to maintain a good spot during a turn when people are throwing flashes on-stage, and I know how annoying it is to sit in an audience with a guy who has the screen to his camera/blackberry/palm-pilot/whatever the hell he has glowing the whole time. Anyways, the next few days will be ballet shots starting with this from the battle scene. I originally didn't like it, but it's grown on me...and the shadow of a dancer in the lower left corner adds to it. I can't figure out who made the shadow as I don't remember anyone of that size and with a skirt like that on stage at the time. It's a mystery that I know I could solve if I really wanted to, but I'd rather leave it the way it is. Sometimes things aren't meant to be disturbed.
